Fertility Acupuncture in Melbourne — Balwyn & Deepdene | Flow Acupuncture

Specialist Fertility Acupuncture in Melbourne

Flow Acupuncture provides specialist fertility acupuncture in Melbourne’s inner eastern suburbs — at our Balwyn and Deepdene clinics. Our practitioners, Dr Jenny Kwon and Dr Vivian Chow, have developed deep experience in fertility support through years of working alongside major Melbourne fertility clinics and supporting women and their partners through the full spectrum of fertility difficulty — from unexplained infertility and PCOS through to IVF support and recurrent pregnancy loss.

Fertility acupuncture at Flow is grounded in traditional Chinese medicine — an approach that looks at the whole person, the menstrual cycle as a diagnostic window, and the underlying patterns that may be contributing to difficulty conceiving. We work alongside your fertility specialist, not in place of them, and communicate openly with the rest of your care team.

Conditions We Support

• Unexplained infertility
• PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) — including anovulatory PCOS
• Endometriosis
• Irregular or absent menstrual cycles
• Poor egg quality (diminished ovarian reserve)
• Male factor infertility — sperm count, motility, morphology
• Recurrent miscarriage
• IVF support — pre-cycle preparation, injection phase, pre/post-transfer, post-retrieval
• Frozen embryo transfer (FET) support
• Pre-conception preparation for natural conception

IVF Support at Flow Acupuncture

We offer acupuncture support across each phase of the IVF cycle. A discounted rate is available during the injection and transfer phases — we understand the financial burden of IVF and want to support you as accessibly as possible

Fertility Acupuncture Melbourne — FAQ

Acupuncture IVF support treatment – Flow Acupuncture Melbourne fertility clinic

We generally recommend beginning acupuncture 3–6 months before a planned conception attempt or IVF cycle if possible. This allows time to work on any underlying patterns — such as menstrual irregularity, poor cycle quality, or stress — that may be contributing to difficulty conceiving. If you are already in an IVF cycle, it is not too late to begin — treatment during the injection, retrieval and transfer phases can also be supportive.

Several randomised controlled trials have investigated acupuncture and IVF outcomes. Three of the four most cited RCTs (completed 2002–2006) found acupuncture before and after embryo transfer was associated with higher clinical pregnancy rates compared to the non-acupuncture group. However, research results are mixed and acupuncture cannot be said to guarantee improved IVF outcomes. We share the research transparently with our patients and support them in making informed decisions about their care.
Yes. PCOS and endometriosis are among the most common conditions we see in our women’s health practice. Chinese medicine offers a holistic framework for understanding and addressing the patterns that underlie both conditions — working on hormone regulation, menstrual cycle quality, and associated symptoms such as pain, bloating, and fatigue. We work alongside your gynaecologist and fertility specialist and do not advise patients to cease medical treatment.

Yes — we see male partners for fertility support and this is something we actively encourage. Male factor infertility accounts for a significant proportion of fertility difficulty, and acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can be used to support sperm count, motility and morphology. Treating both partners simultaneously is often the most comprehensive approach.
